This website was set up using WordPress. WordPress is a very versatile CMS (Content Management System). It uses templates to change the look and style of a site.

Templates are a fast way to change the face of your site.

This site was set up to help you determine what your needs are and to help us build your site.

We can create many different types of sites depending on your needs.

Our preference is WordPress. We can make simple sites in HTML. HTML sites are static pages linked together. The drawback of HTML sites is the maintenance required. Because they are a group of static pages a change made in one page usually means changes to many or all pages.

WordPress is actually easier to update and lower in maintenance. Add a new template and you have a new site with the same content. It just has a different look and feel to it.

We can also make Joomla sites, although, in our opinion, Joomla is a little harder in the administration end and has a greater learning curve than WordPress.

Joomla is also a CMS.

Types of sites found on the internet.

There are many different categories of website on the internet these days. They can be broken down as such:

Blogs

Blog sites are used all over the Web. They are mainly used  for adding your thoughts, interests, articles, news releases, support, and other information for your viewers or customers. Most Blogs have a mechanism for viewers to leave comments.

Typical uses include sites that support software, for customer feedback, or just you or your company’s information.

WordPress was designed for the Blogger in mind, although it is much, much more than just Blog Software.

E-Commerce

E-Commerce sites are used to sell your wares on the net. More complicated to set up than Blogs as they need some mechanism to accept payments. They can be very large sites depending on what type of inventory you have for sale. On E-Commerce sites a lot of time is spent on testing to make sure the payment mechanisms are working correctly.

Specific Sites

There are as many types of specific sites as there are businesses. They can include Photo Sites, Software Sites, Furniture Sites, Classified Ad Sites, Auto Sites……well, you name it! These are the type of sites that give your company a web presence.

Social Networking

Social networking sites are where you can share things with your family, friends or co-workers. Pictures, news, games and things of interest to you.

They are like a personal blog on steroids. They are also out there for the whole world to see and as such your information is not very private.

Facebook, Twitter, Delicious, MySpace, and StumbleUpon are social networking sites.

Clan Sites – Personal Sites

Clan Sites are a way to share information with your family. They can have picture albums, announcements, recipes, jokes, biographies or anything that is of interest to your clan. You can make these sites private so only your clan can see the site.
